What to Bring When You Go to a Photoshoot
Whether you are getting ready for your first photoshoot as a model or a beginner photographer, it’s always a good idea to make sure you’re fully prepared by packing a bag the night with a few essential things. Packing essential items helps ensure your photoshoot goes as smooth as possible so you’re spending time realizing you need something right in the middle of the photoshoot. These lists will give you some essentials to bring for models and photographers.
For Models
Change of clothes (or two)
Depending on the style of the shoot, your photographer may want you to change outfits, so it is always a good idea to discuss this beforehand. Always make sure your clothes are ironed or steamed so there are no wrinkles, and your clothes will look great on camera. When shopping for outfits online, give yourself plenty of time to receive the outfits and also try everything on before your session to make sure nothing is too see through, everything fits, and that you and your photographer are happy with the look.
Accessories (Hats, sunglasses, jewelry, scarves)
Accessories can make or break an outfit, especially on camera. Earrings, necklaces, and bracelets are a great way to dress up an outfit and really make you stand out. You don’t want to wear any accessories that are too distracting or clash with your outfit so keep it simple but
Props
The style of your shoot may be more playful or meaningful and adding props in the background or props that you can hold in different poses can be a great way to portray that. Something as simple as an umbrella can really add to a shot. It’s always a good idea to brainstorm any ideas you may have with your photographer.
Hairbrush, pins, and hairspray
With most shoots you will get your hair done before the shoot or you may even style it at home, but it is always important to remember a few things for touchups along the way. Changing outfits could mess up your hair and while things like flyways can be retouched, it takes a lot of time to edit so it’s always best to try and avoid imperfections being visible in the first place.
Make-up
Just like with hair touch-up, your make-up will most likely need to be touched up along the way. If you did your own makeup or if your makeup artist will not be on site for the whole shoot, make sure you at least keep the same lipstick you used since that is probably will require the most touch-ups.
Comfy shoes that are easy to slip on and off
If your photoshoot is outside, your photographer will likely want you to move around or walk a short distance in between shots so if you are wearing heels or shoes that aren’t very comfortable, you should take some flip flops or slippers that you can quicky change in to when walking around.
Water
Sometimes photoshoots are long and you may be exposed to a lot of sun or heat from lights so it’s best to stay hydrated so you can look (and feel) your best!
